WordPress has become one of the most popular and widely used content management systems on the web, largely due to its ease of use and open source nature. But what language is WordPress written in and has it changed since its first release in 2003?

WordPress is primarily written in the server-side scripting language PHP, which allows developers to customize the platform to their needs. While WordPress does support other languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and plugins, the core code of WordPress remains the same. Therefore, WordPress is still a great platform for creating websites and is likely to continue to be written in PHP for many years to come.
